The dataset includes chemical properties of the organic layer and mineral soil on forest and pastures core plots in San Francisco during sampling campaigns in 2018 and 2019. Three soil profiles were established on each core plot. Respresentative samples were taken from each horizon, dried and transported to Germany for laboratory analyses. Available nitrogen (NH4-N and NO3-N) was immediately extracted in the laboratory of the ECSF with 1 M KCl. The extracts were frozen and sent to Germany for laboratory analyses by continuous flow analysis. Following properties were measured in the < 2mm soil fraction: available P after extraction by the Olsen method with 0.5 M NaHCO3 and measurement by continuous flow analysis, total element concentrations Al, Fe, Mn, Zn, C, N, S, P, K, Na, Mg, Ca after microwave pressure digestion with HNO3, H2O2 and HF and measurement by by ICP-OES or ICP-MS, effective cation exchange capacity and exchangeable cations Ca, Na, Mg, K, Al, Fe, Mn after unbuffered extraction with 1M NH4NO3 and measurement by ICP-OES.

Weekly time series of precipitation data from the ECSF area at the measuring station FN2 located at the intersection of Camino Canal and Camino Zig-Zag. Precipitation was measured with 5 Hellmann-type pluviometers. The resulting weekly replicates of precipitation were volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per collecting interval. Electrical conductivity and pH values were measured immediately in unfiltered aliquots in the laboratory at the ECSF.

Weekly time series of measured electrical conductivity and pH values in soil solution (at 15 cm mineral soil depth) in the microcatchment Q2 (transects Q2.1, Q2.2 and Q2.3). The time series extends between May 2000 and December 2016. Soil solution was sampled on the 3 transects of Q2 with ceramic suction cups having a pore size of 1 µm installed at 15 cm depth in the mineral soil. On each transect 3 replicates were collected and bulked to one sample per plot and collection interval. Electrical conductivity and pH values were measured immediately in unfiltered aliquots in the laboratory of the ECSF.

We sampled streams in two pasture catchments (ECQC and ECQP), two entirely forested streams (Quebrada Milagro ECQM and Quebrada Ramon ECQR), two disturbed catchments (Quebrada Zurita ECQZ and Quebrada Navidades ECQN) and three times in the main San Francisco river: once, before the compuerta (ECFH), once down at the ECSF station (ECSF) and once at the Planta (ECPL). We also samples rain once in a while (own collector right at the station).

It is best to be sent a map with the locations of the sampling stations on it because the geographical coordinates sometimes are too imprecise and are then on solid ground and not in the river..

Weekly time series of throughfall data (water fluxes, electrical conductivity, pH values) from the natural forest in Laipuna at 1200 m a.s.l. (Plot 2). The updated weekly time series extends between December 2022 and July 2024. Throughfall was sampled with 20 Hellmann-type collectors. Replicates were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per plot and sampling period. Electrical conductivity and pH values were measured immediately in unfiltered aliquots in the laboratory at the research station Laipuna.

Weekly time series of precipitation data (water fluxes, electrical conductivity, pH values) from the Bombuscaro site at 1000 m a.s.l. located at the climate station. The updated weekly time series extends between March 2018 and December 2023. Precipitation was sampled with 5 Hellmann-type collectors. Replicates were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per plot. Electrical conductivity and pH values were measured immediately in unfiltered aliquots in the laboratory at the ECSF.

Aggregated values from 2018 are incomplete (March to December).

Weekly time series of precipitation data from the San Francisco area at 2000 m a.s.l. at the measuring station FN3 located at the climate station on T2. Precipitation was measured with 5 Hellmann-type pluviometers. The resulting weekly replicates of precipitation were volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per collecting interval. Electrical conductivity and pH values were measured immediately in unfiltered aliquots in the laboratory at the ECSF.

Aggregated values from 2000 are incomplete (May to December).

Weekly time series of water fluxes, pH, electrical conductivity and measured concentrations of Al, Cu, Mn, Zn, Cl, PO4-P, Total P, NH4-N, NO3-N, Total N, S, K, Na, Mg, Ca and Total organic C in stream water in the ECSF area in the microcatchment Q2. The weekly time series extends between March 1998 and December 2016. Stream water was sampled weekly upstream of the weir in Q2.1. Samples were immediately filtered (4-7 µm) in the laboratory of the ECSF and stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany or to Switzerland for concentration measurements.

Weekly time series of measured electrical conductivity and pH values in litter leachate in the microcatchment Q2 (transects Q2.1, Q2.2 and Q2.3). The time series extends between MArch 1998 and December 2016. Litter leachate was sampled on the three transects with zero-tension lysimeters below the organic layer. On each transect 3 replicates at upper, middle and lower slope positions were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per plot and collecting interval. Electrical conductivity and pH values were measured immediately in unfiltered aliquots in the laboratory of the ECSF.

Stem flow was sampled weekly in Q2.1 with polyurethane collars on 5 representative tree species: Piptocoma discolor (Kunth) Pruski, Heliocarpus americanus L., Sapium glandulosum (L.) Morong, Cyathea caracasana (Klotzsch) Domin, Cecropia angustifolia Trécul. The five stem flow samples were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per per collecting interval. Samples were immediately filtered (4-7 µm) in the laboratory of the ECSF and stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany or to Switzerland for concentration measurements.
