Weekly time series of measured concentrations of Al, Mn, Zn, Cl, PO4-P, Total P, NH4-N, NO3-N, Total N, S, K, Na, Mg, Ca and Total organic C in soil solution (at 30 cm mineral soil depth) in the ECSF area in the microcatchment Q2 (transects Q2.1, Q2.2 and Q2.3). The weekly time series extends between May 2000 and May 2013. Soil solution was sampled on the 3 transects of Q2 with ceramic suction cups having a pore size of 1 µm installed at 30 cm depth in the mineral soil. On each transect 3 replicates were collected and bulked to one sample per plot and collection interval. Samples were immediately stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany or to Switzerland for concentration measurements.

Weekly time series of measured concentrations of Al, Mn, Zn, Cl, PO4-P, Total P, NH4-N, NO3-N, Total N, S, K, Na, Mg, Ca and Total organic C in litter leachate in the ECSF area in the microcatchment Q2 (transects Q2.1, Q2.2 and Q2.3). The weekly time series extends between March 1998 and May 2013. Litter leachate was sampled on the three transects with zero-tension lysimeters below the organic layer. On each transect 3 replicates at upper, middle and lower slope positions were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per plot and collecting interval. Samples were immediately filtered (4-7 µm) in the laboratory of the ECSF and stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany or to Switzerland for concentration measurements.

Samples were immediately filtered (4-7 µm) in the laboratory of the ECSF and stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany or to Switzerland for concentration measurements.

Fortnightly time series of measured electrical conductivity and pH values in throughfall at NUMEX San Francisco. The fortnightly time series extends between August 2007 and December 2016. Throughfall was sampled on the 20 NUMEX plots with Hellmann-type collectors. On each plot 20 replicates were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per plot. Electrical conductivity and pH values were measured immediately in unfiltered aliquots in the laboratory of the ECSF.

Volumetric water content was measured every 30 minutes with FDR sensors at Plot 13 of NUMEX San Francisco in the organic layer and in 10 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm and 40 cm mineral soil depth. Data was recorded with a dataloger and aggregated to hourly values. Missing data are indicated by "NULL".

Monthly aggregated time series of litterfall in the ECSF area in the microcatchment Q2. Litterfall was sampled weekly on the 3 transects of Q2 (Q2.1, Q2.2, Q2.3) with 3 polyethylene mesh collectors (0.5 x 0.5 m) per transect. The samples were dried at 40 °C for one week and the mass of the dry litterfall was recorded. The masses of the 3 replicates at upper, middle and lower slope were averaged per transect and collecting interval and subsequently aggregated per month and transect.

Monthly time series of measured concentrations of Al, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, C, N, S, P, K, Na, Mg, Ca in litterfall at NUMEX San Francisco between 2007 and 2013. Litterfall was collected on all 20 plots at NUMEX on 6 subplots per plot (A-F) with polyethylene mesh traps (0.6 x 0.6 m). On each plot, two of the six litterfall traps were randomly sampled monthly. The samples were dried at 40 °C for one week and stored at the ECSF until transport to Germany or Switzerland for chemical analyses. The two collected replicates were bulked per plot and collecting interval resulting in one litterfall sample per plot and month. Samples were ground to <50 µm with a planetary ball mill (Retsch PM200, Haan, Germany) prior to elemental analysis of C, N, and S by thermal combustion (Elementar Analysensysteme, Hanau, Germany) and acid microwave digestion with concentrated HNO3. Element concentrations in the digested samples were measured by AAS, ICP-OES or ICP-MS.

Weekly time series of precipitation data from the San Francisco area at 2000 m a.s.l. at the measuring station FN3 located at the climate station on T2. Precipitation was measured with 5 Hellmann-type pluviometers. The resulting weekly replicates of precipitation were volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per collecting interval. Electrical conductivity and pH values were measured immediately in unfiltered aliquots in the laboratory at the ECSF.

Aggregated values from 2000 are incomplete (May to December).

Electrical conductivity and pH values were measured immediately in unfiltered aliquots in the laboratory at the ECSF.

Aggregated values from 1998 are incomplete (March to December).

Stem flow was sampled weekly in Q2.1 with polyurethane collars on 5 representative tree species: Piptocoma discolor (Kunth) Pruski, Heliocarpus americanus L., Sapium glandulosum (L.) Morong, Cyathea caracasana (Klotzsch) Domin, Cecropia angustifolia Trécul. The five stem flow samples were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per per collecting interval. Samples were immediately filtered (4-7 µm) in the laboratory of the ECSF and stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany or to Switzerland for concentration measurements.

Rainfall data from the ECSF area in hourly resolution at the FN2 site located at the intersection of Camino Canal and Camino Zig-Zag. Rainfall was measured with an automatic rain gauge (Campbell ARG100, Palo Alto, USA) coupled with a HOBO H07-002-04 datalogger (Onset, Bourne, USA). Event-based recordings were aggregated to hourly data. Rain events occuring during one hour interval were aggregated to the next full hour. Data values are complete unless otherwise indicated by the data gaps below:
