Quality assessment ECSF climate station hourly data: Version 2; Dataset supersedes ver. 1 which is left for reference. Please be aware, that aggregated values may be wrong, due to the data gaps. This is especcially critical for precipitation. Variables: Ta2m =Air Temperature at 2 m (T) PCP = Precipitation at 1 m (P) Huma_2m = relative humidity at 2m (rH) Irradiation = global radiation at 2 m (gRad), widspeed. Emitted radiation, wind direction and soil-temperatures are not yet published For each variable, a measure of uncertainty is given in the original dimension. This value can be considered as the potential deviation from real conditions. Where no parallel measurements exist, the uncertainty is given as the standard deviation of that difference. The mycobionts of 103 terrestrial and epiphytic orchid individuals, sampled in the RBSF from permanently estabished orchid plots, were identified by sequencing the whole ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 region and part of 28S rDNA. Tulasnellales, Sebacinales and for the first time Atractiellales were found.

Plots were established by members of UTPL, Dr. Juan Pablo Suarez and his coworkers, on the orchid regeneration land slide, on basis of T1 and in uppar part of T2 as given by geographic parameters. All laboratory work was carried out by the UTPL group mentioned above.

Measurements of gas flux (CO2, CH4, N2O) in canopy soils of NUMEX plots on four dates (Sept/Nov 2011 and Jan/April 2012). Measurements were taken in 3 of the 4 NUMEX blocks at each elevation; treatments measured included C, N, NP and P.

Gas fluxes were measured by incubating intact soil cores.
Gas samples were analyzed on a gas chromatograph with a FID and ECD.
Note that the units for CO2 are mg CO2-C m-2 h-1 (not g CO2-C).

Soil texture were sampled in the young landslide in front of the station, on the other side of the San Francisco river. Soil samples were analysed in the laboratory of the University of Bayreuth.

The table is a  list of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi with their host plants. The sequences are deposited in the NCBI GenBank.

Due to technical problems the former weather station ECSF (established 1998) was shut down in 2010. At the same time a new weather station called "Climate Station ECSF established 2010" was installed 3m beside the former ECSF weather station on the same measuring plot.

The data are quality checked by a standardised method.

Quality flag is set to
"d = missing"

2. Checking of site specific threshold value.
If the value is not inbetween the thresholds the quality flag is set to "c = out of range":
Windspeed max = 25
Global Radiation max = 1400
Air temperature in 2m max = 30
Air temperature in 2m min = 5
Air humidity max = 99.9
Air humidity min = 10

3. Checking the plausibility of air temperature and air humidity within the measurement intervals by comparing the previous and current values.
If the temperature amplitude is higher then 10°C and humidity amplitude is higher than 30% the plausibility of this variation is checked by comparing to the variation of the other parameter.
The quality flag is set to "e = variation implausible".

4. Precipitation check
If precipitation is more than 25 mm then quality flag is set to "c = out of range"
If precipitation is more than 15 mm and air temperature increases more than 0.2 °C inbetween a temporal interval then quality flag is set to "e = variation impossible".

5. Relative air humidity values are corrected by a standarized method and quality flag is set to "m = manually corrected".

6. Wind direction is not quality checked and flag is set to "nqc = not quality checked"

All other values are set to "a = valid".

Weekly time series of precipitation data from the ECSF area at the measuring station FN3 located on T2 near the ECSF meteorological station. Precipitation was measured with 5 Hellmann-type pluviometers. The resulting weekly replicates of precipitation were volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per collecting interval. Electrical conductivity and pH values were measured immediately in unfiltered aliquots in the laboratory at the ECSF.

Operational taxonomic units (OTUs) of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) detected in roots sampled at the 2000m NUMEX sites in October 2010.
