Abstract:
A ground station for weather satellite data (hereafter Marburg Satellite Station MSS) is established
at the Laboratory for Climatology and Remote Sensing (LCRS) of the University of Marburg
(Germany). The ground segment consists of three receiving stations which are operated by the
LCRS - Faculty of Geography (NOAA-HRPT, MSG-HRUS and TERRA/AQUA) and one NOAAHRPT
receiving station in Quito (Ecuador) which is hosted by the National Weather Service of
Ecuador, INAMHI. All received image data are transferred via LAN (Marburg) or FTP (Quito) to the
LCRS archiving facility where data are stored in a database by means of a CD jukebox robot
archive. The technical layout of the stations, the processing chain from the raw data stream to
Level 1b data and some examples of scientific applications at LCRS are presented in the paper.
