Abstract:
canopy openness and relative light transmission (direct and/or diffuse=indirect) in 8 pairs of trees in mature forest (RBSF at 1800-2000m) and at similar elevations isolated in pasture (active or abandoned) at RBSF or on the opposite northern slope of the valley.
Additional Infos:
Hemispherical photographs taken in understorey (2m height; canopy stratum 1 - Johansson-zone 1), lower canopy (canopy stratum 3 - Johansson-zome 3) and upper canopy (canopy stratum 5 - Johansson-zone 5). Microclimate measurement at sime N-side of tree trunks are available in database, too. Camera: Nikon Coolpix 4500, lens: Nikon EZ-8 (180° fish-eye). Analysed using GLA 2.0 software (Frazer et al. 1999; Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, British Columbia, and the Institute of Ecosystem Studies, Millbrook, New York). Air temperature and relative humidity were logged at he exactly same positions on the same trees where these photos were taken (FOR816 databank files no. 525-664). We give % values (percent of canopy openness, total radiation, total (in-)direct radiation etc.) that can be transformed to radiation values using the watt/m² means given for the climate station ecsf by Paul (PhD dissertation; 2007). "Indirect" radiation means diffuse radiation.<br/> Several dozens of additional hemispherical photographs have been taken for stratum 1 (1.3 m height: understorey) in undisturbed forest (Q2, T2, Q5 at RBSF), edges of (logging) treefall gaps (Q5) and below isolated remnant trees in a recent clearing (above the nearby village of Sabanilla), all at 2000 m but haven't been anylysed yet.
