Ammonium heptamolybdate catalysed by potassium antimony(III) oxide tartrate reacts in an acidic medium with diluted solutions of phosphate to form a phospho-molybdic acid complex. This complex is reduced in an intensely blue colored complex by L(+)ascorbic acid. This complex is measured at 880 nm. |

The determination of NO3-N concentrations by cadmium reduction usually includes a small amount of originally present nitrite-N (NO2-N), which was below the detection limits and hence considered negligible. |
