Soil aggregation parameters were measured in NUMEX at 1000m in 2013. Water-stable soil aggregates were determined as well as the mean weight diameter of soil based on dry-sieving.

The amount of waterstable soil aggregates (>0.25mm) in percent. A wet-sieving apparatus (Kemper & Rosenau 1986) was used. Weights were corrected for coarse matter.

The mean weight diameter (MWD) is an aggregation indice. It is obtained by breaking the soil into aggregate classes by the wet sieving method. The MWD will increase as the percentage of large aggregates retained in the sieves increases. The more MWD score is high the more "water-stable" is the soil. MWD varies according to the soil management practices and is a good indicator to see if physical conditions are being improved or not.
