Land cover and bracken fern classification
Description

Based on a maximum likelihood classification of a pre-processed (geometric, atmosphecric, and topographic corrected) QuickBird scene (22-10-10).
The classified scene is composed of the following classes:(1) forest, (2) pasture, (3) bracken fern, (4) non-vegetated, and (5) subpáramo.
The classes forest (primary and secondary forest) and non-vegetated (roads, buildings, land-slides, bare soil, burnt areas, lakes, and rivers) were selected from visual signature training in the QuickBird colour composite.
Training sites for the classes bracken fern (bracken fern, grasses, and shrubs) and pasture were defined from field data. The subpáramo region was considered as the area above 2700 m.a.s.l.
