Detailed information is available in Pablo Ramirez' thesis (UNL Loja, 2006: Respuesta de las comunidades de epifitas a la manipulación forestal en un bosque tropical de montaña Austro ecuatoriano). In a few taxa, blade length was nmeasured in the first two years but total leaf length mesured starting year 2. Sampling height 0.25-4.5 m (details available). Abstract: We measured LAL (leaf area loss) as an indicator for herbivory for 27 plots in natural and disturbed forest sites (1000 to 3000m a.s.l.). LAL (%) was estimated for the shrub layer and the herbal layer in 30 randomly chosen m² per plot. We averaged the LAL of both layers.
