This dataset contains fruit functional traits of fleshy-fruited species at three different altitudes (1000, 2000, 3000 masl)

Data in progress until the end of 2020.
Final data will be available in 2021.

AMF root colonization of roots extracted from the upper soil layer (5cm) at all NUMEX plots. Roots are stained with Trypan Blue, AMF root colonization is examined by the line-intersect method.

Due to technical problems the former weather station ECSF (established 1998) was shut down in 2010. At the same time a new weather station called "Climate Station ECSF established 2010" was installed 3m beside the former ECSF weather station on the same measuring plot.

The data are quality checked by a standardised method.

Checking modules:

1. Does a value exist?
Quality flag is set to
"d = missing"

2. Checking of site specific threshold value.
If the value is not inbetween the thresholds the quality flag is set to "c = out of range":
Windspeed max = 25
Global Radiation max = 1400
Air temperature in 2m max = 30
Air temperature in 2m min = 5
Air humidity max = 99.9
Air humidity min = 10

3. Checking the plausibility of air temperature and air humidity within the measurement intervals by comparing the previous and current values.
If the temperature amplitude is higher then 10°C and humidity amplitude is higher than 30% the plausibility of this variation is checked by comparing to the variation of the other parameter.
The quality flag is set to "e = variation implausible".

4. Precipitation check
If precipitation is more than 25 mm then quality flag is set to "c = out of range"
If precipitation is more than 15 mm and air temperature increases more than 0.2 °C inbetween a temporal interval then quality flag is set to "e = variation impossible".

5. Relative air humidity values are corrected by a standarized method and quality flag is set to "m = manually corrected".

6. Wind direction is not quality checked and flag is set to "nqc = not quality checked"

All other values are set to "a = valid".

This dataset contains fruit phenology data from 37 fleshy-fruited species at three different altitudes (1000, 2000, 3000 masl) over 10 months (2019 & 2020).

Quality assessment ECSF climate station hourly data: Version 2; Dataset supersedes ver. 1 which is left for reference. Please be aware, that aggregated values may be wrong, due to the data gaps. This is especcially critical for precipitation. Variables: Ta2m =Air Temperature at 2 m (T) PCP = Precipitation at 1 m (P) Huma_2m = relative humidity at 2m (rH) Irradiation = global radiation at 2 m (gRad), widspeed. Emitted radiation, wind direction and soil-temperatures are not yet published For each variable, a measure of uncertainty is given in the original dimension. This value can be considered as the potential deviation from real conditions. Where no parallel measurements exist, the uncertainty is given as the standard deviation of that difference. Soil texture were sampled in the young landslide in front of the station, on the other side of the San Francisco river. Soil samples were analysed in the laboratory of the University of Bayreuth.

Position of trees in the natural forest experiment was calculated using trigonometric measurements from 2004 and 2009. Precision is estimated to be between 0-10m.

GPS points of the ECSF_PINOS PLOT, original files and corrected with the NCI GPS data.

Operational taxonomic units (OTUs) of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) detected in roots sampled at the 2000m NUMEX sites in October 2010.

Rainfall data from the ECSF area in hourly resolution at the FN2 site located at the intersection of Camino Canal and Camino Zig-Zag. Rainfall was measured with an automatic rain gauge (Campbell ARG100, Palo Alto, USA) coupled with a HOBO H07-002-04 datalogger (Onset, Bourne, USA). Event-based recordings were aggregated to hourly data. Rain events occuring during one hour interval were aggregated to the next full hour. Data values are complete unless otherwise indicated by the data gaps below:
