Weekly time series of water fluxes, pH, electrical conductivity and measured concentrations of Al, Cu, Mn, Zn, Cl, PO4-P, Total P, NH4-N, NO3-N, Total N, S, K, Na, Mg, Ca and Total organic C in stream water in the ECSF area in the microcatchment Q2. The weekly time series extends between March 1998 and December 2016. Stream water was sampled weekly upstream of the weir in Q2.1. Samples were immediately filtered (4-7 µm) in the laboratory of the ECSF and stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany or to Switzerland for concentration measurements.

Weekly time series of measured concentrations of Al, Mn, Zn, Cl, PO4-P, Total P, NH4-N, NO3-N, Total N, S, K, Na, Mg, Ca and Total organic C in soil solution (at 15 cm mineral soil depth) in the ECSF area in the microcatchment Q2 (transects Q2.1, Q2.2 and Q2.3). The weekly time series extends between May 2000 and May 2013. Soil solution was sampled on the 3 transects of Q2 with ceramic suction cups having a pore size of 1 µm installed at 15 cm depth in the mineral soil. On each transect 3 replicates were collected and bulked to one sample per plot and collection interval. Samples were immediately stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany or to Switzerland for concentration measurements.

Monthly mean nutrient and element concentrations in soil solution and monthly sum of litterfall from Q2.2. Soil solution was sampled from below the organic layer (lysimeter), 15cm and 30cm depth. Monthly means were calculated from weekly measurements. The measured nutrients and elements comprise: pH, PO4-P, Ptot, Cl, NH4-N, NO3-N, Ntot, DOC, Ca, K, Mg, Na.

The weekly time series extends between March 2018 and December 2019. Throughfall was sampled weekly with 20 Hellmann-type collectors. Replicates were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per plot and sampling period. Electrical conductivity and pH values were measured immediately in unfiltered aliquots in the laboratory at the ECSF. Samples were filtered (4-7 µm) in the laboratory of the ECSF and stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany for concentration measurements.

Weekly time series of throughfall fluxes, electrical conductivity, pH values and measured concentrations of Al, Mn, Zn, Cl, PO4-P, Total P, NH4-N, NO3-N, Total N, S, K, Na, Mg, Ca and Total organic C in throughfall in the ECSF area in the microcatchment Q2 (transects Q2.1, Q2.2 and Q2.3). Stem flow was sampled weekly in Q2.1 with polyurethane collars on 5 representative tree species: Piptocoma discolor (Kunth) Pruski, Heliocarpus americanus L., Sapium glandulosum (L.) Morong, Cyathea caracasana (Klotzsch) Domin, Cecropia angustifolia Trécul. The five stem flow samples were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per per collecting interval. Samples were immediately filtered (4-7 µm) in the laboratory of the ECSF and stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany or to Switzerland for concentration measurements.

Fortnightly time series of measured concentrations of Cl, PO4-P, Total P, NH4-N, NO3-N, Total N, K, Na, Mg, Ca and Total organic C in throughfall at NUMEX San Francisco. The fortnightly time series extends between August 2007 and March 2013. Throughfall was sampled on the 20 NUMEX plots with Hellmann-type collectors. On each plot 20 replicates were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per plot. Samples were immediately filtered (4-7 µm) in the laboratory of the ECSF  and stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany or to Switzerland for concentration measurements.

Weekly time series of measured concentrations of Al, Mn, Zn, Cl, PO4-P, Total P, NH4-N, NO3-N, Total N, S, K, Na, Mg, Ca and Total organic C in litter leachate in the ECSF area in the microcatchment Q2 (transects Q2.1, Q2.2 and Q2.3). The weekly time series extends between March 1998 and May 2013. Litter leachate was sampled on the three transects with zero-tension lysimeters below the organic layer. On each transect 3 replicates at upper, middle and lower slope positions were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per plot and collecting interval. Samples were immediately filtered (4-7 µm) in the laboratory of the ECSF and stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany or to Switzerland for concentration measurements.

Fortnightly time series of measured concentrations of Cl, PO4-P, Total P, NH4-N, NO3-N, Total N, K, Na, Mg, Ca and Total organic C in litter leachate at NUMEX San Francisco. The fortnightly time series extends between August 2007 and March 2013. Litter leachate was sampled on the 20 NUMEX plots with tero-tension lysimeters below the organic layer. On each plot 3 replicates were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per plot. Samples were immediately filtered (4-7 µm) in the laboratory of the ECSF and stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany or to Switzerland for concentration measurements.

The dataset includes physical and chemical properties of the organic layer and mineral soil at NUMEX San Francisco during sampling campaigns from 2007 to 2009. Following properties were measured: bulk density, horizon thickness, sand, silt and clay content, concentrations of Al, Fe, Mn, Zn, C, N, S, P, K, Na, Mg, Ca, cation exchange capacity, exchangeable cations Ca, Na, Mg, K, Al, Fe, delta 13C and delta 15N values. The weekly time series extends between April 1998 and May 2013. Precipitation was sampled with 5 Hellmann-type collectors. Replicates were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per plot. Samples were immediately filtered (4-7 µm) in the laboratory of the ECSF and stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany or to Switzerland for concentration measurements.

Teabag decomposition of green Litpon tea (see teabag index) was measured at 1000 and 2000m with teabags soaked in different 1M sodium solutions.

Litter decomposition of Graffenrieda leaves was measured at the 2000 and 1000m sites. NaCl was applied every week, and total litter mass loss was determined after 6 months. The independent effects of fauna and litter were determined via diffeent mesh sizes.

Monthly mean nutrient and element concentrations in stem flow from Q2. The monthly values were calculated from weekly measurements. Stem flow was collected from 5 trees in Q2. A list of tree species and tree properties can be found in Fleischbein et al. (2005, Hydrological Processes).
