Tree functional traits (leaf area, specific leaf area, foliar N, foliar P, leaf toughness, bark thickness, wood specific gravity, sapwood vessel density, sapwood vessel diameter, sapwood-specific conductivity) recorded in the premontane forests of the Podocarpus National Park (Bombuscaro entrance).

AMF root colonization of roots extracted from the upper soil layer (5cm) at all NUMEX plots. Roots are stained with Trypan Blue, AMF root colonization is examined by the line-intersect method.

Attributes measured and morphological attribute analyzed in 2012  after harvesting the seedling transplantation experiment using Pouteria torta species.

This dataset contains fruit functional traits of fleshy-fruited species at three different altitudes (1000, 2000, 3000 masl)

Data in progress until the end of 2020.
Final data will be available in 2021.

Weekly time series of water fluxes, electrical conductivity, pH values and measured concentrations of Al, Mn, Zn, Cl, PO4-P, Total P, NH4-N, NO3-N, Total N, K, Na, Mg, Ca and Total organic C in throughfall in Bombuscaro at 1000 m a.s.l. in NUMEX Plot 12 (control). The weekly time series extends between March 2018 and December 2019. Throughfall was sampled weekly with 20 Hellmann-type collectors. Replicates were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per plot and sampling period. Electrical conductivity and pH values were measured immediately in unfiltered aliquots in the laboratory at the ECSF. Samples were filtered (4-7 µm) in the laboratory of the ECSF and stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany for concentration measurements.

Measurements of gas flux (CO2, CH4, N2O) in canopy soils of NUMEX plots on four dates (Sept/Nov 2011 and Jan/April 2012). Measurements were taken in 3 of the 4 NUMEX blocks at each elevation; treatments measured included C, N, NP and P.

Gas fluxes were measured by incubating intact soil cores.
Gas samples were analyzed on a gas chromatograph with a FID and ECD.
Note that the units for CO2 are mg CO2-C m-2 h-1 (not g CO2-C).

The dataset includes chemical properties of the mineral soil associated with the PFT trees species of the core plots in Bombuscaro, San Francisco and Cajanuma. The samples were taken during sampling campaigns in 2018 and 2019. Respresentative samples were taken from the mineral soil at five locations close to each tree from 0-10 cm soil depth, bulked in the field, dried at 40 °C at the ECSF and transported to Germany for laboratory analyses. Total carbon, nitrogen and sulfur were measured by elemental analysis via thermal combustion in milled aliquots. Available P was measured in the < 2mm soil fraction after extraction by the Olsen method with 0.5 M NaHCO3 and measurement by continuous flow analysis.

Analyses if morphological and physiological attributes of seedlings from the two most common species in NUMEX experiment at the three elevations. Changes in this attributes are altered by nutrient availability in this case fertilization might showed specific limitation for N or P.

The weekly time series extends between March 2018 and December 2019. Precipitation was sampled with 5 Hellmann-type collectors. Replicates were collected, volume-weighted and bulked to one sample per plot. Electrical conductivity and pH values were measured immediately in unfiltered aliquots in the laboratory at the ECSF. Samples were filtered (4-7 µm) in the laboratory of the ECSF and stored at -20 °C until transport in frozen state to Germany for concentration measurements.

The dataset includes physical properties of the mineral soils on forest and pasture core plots in Bombuscaro during the sampling campaigns in 2018 and 2019. Three soil profiles were established on each core plot. Respresentative samples were taken from each horizon, dried and transported to Germany for laboratory analyses. Bulk density was measured in the topsoil with undisturbed soil cores. Soil texture was measured with a combined sieving and pipetting method after oxidation of organic matter and chemical dispersion of aggregates.

Abundance of ant species were collected during the wet and the dry season 2014 on the core plots and intermediate elevation levels (1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000) on disturbed and undisturbed forest plots.
