Analyses if morphological and physiological attributes of seedlings from the two most common species in NUMEX experiment at the three elevations. Changes in this attributes are altered by nutrient availability in this case fertilization might showed specific limitation for N or P.

Soil aggregation parameters were measured in NUMEX at 1000m in 2013. Water-stable soil aggregates were determined as well as the mean weight diameter of soil based on dry-sieving.

Measurement of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AMF) abundance in the NUMEX plots at all elevational sites. AMF root colonization, hyphal length, spore counts and NLFA 16:1w5 marker in soil were determined. Additionally, we quantified non-mycorrhizal fungal root colonization and hyphal length.

Teabag decomposition of green Litpon tea (see teabag index) was measured at 1000 and 2000m with teabags soaked in different 1M sodium solutions.

Litter decomposition of Graffenrieda leaves was measured at the 2000 and 1000m sites. NaCl was applied every week, and total litter mass loss was determined after 6 months. The independent effects of fauna and litter were determined via diffeent mesh sizes.

Changes in AMF root colonization following N and P additions at 2000m.

Operational taxonomic units (OTUs) of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) detected in roots sampled at the 2000m NUMEX sites in October 2010.

Abundance of ant species were collected during the wet and the dry season 2014 on the core plots and intermediate elevation levels (1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000) on disturbed and undisturbed forest plots.

Bird species (elevational gradient: 1800-2530m) occurrence and abundance has been collected by a trained observer in 30 forest sites in the study area under favorable weather conditions at 6:00–10:00 and 16:00–18:00 (UTC ?5:00) between 2000 and 2002 (Paulsch and Müller-Hohenstein, 2008). Standardized point counts (30 min) were repeated 12 times per site and combined with mist-netting data to comprehensively assess the bird assemblages.

The abundance data has been used in project C2 for the purpose to model species alpha and beta diversity with permission of Detlev Paulsch.

We assessed potential phosphomonoesterase activity in the organic layer along the altitudinal gradient (1000, 2000, and 3000m a.s.l.). Therefore, we sampled the organic layer of the control plots of NUMEXnu.

Within the scope of the NUMEX experiment in tropical montane forests of South Ecuador, we measured Bray-extracted inorganic P and total P by means of a HNO3 digestion. We tested whether P availability was affected by moderate P and N fertilization along an altitudinal gradient (1000, 2000, and 3000m a.s.l.). Therefore, we sampled the organic layer and mineral soil of fertilization (N, P, N+P) and control plots.

We monitored frugivore diversity and plant-frugivore interactions in a tropical montane forest in Southern Ecuador across an elevational (1000, 2000, 3000 masl) and human disturbance gradient over two years (2014 & 2015)

In the uploaded data you can find the richness and abundance of  frugivore birds and fruiting plants(involved in the interaction networks. They were recorded in a 30m x 100m transect inside the core plots.

This dataset contains bird monitoring data from all core plots (natural and disturbed forest sites) from two different seasons(wet and dry season)at three different altitudes (1000, 2000, 3000 masl)over two years (2014 & 2015).

Ants data obtained by baiting with 6 used nutrients (water, salt solution, sugar solution, amino-acid solution, amino-acid-sugar solution, oil). Data were collected during the wet and the dry season 2014 on the coreplots and intermediate elevation levels (1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000) on disturbed and undisturbed forest plots. The predation data were collected using an artificial caterpillar approach.
